well, i found these economy grade .7mm mech pencils by Pentel in my kit and been carrying them to do math notes. came with HB leads. decided to try this gesture using one of them. this was quite fun to sketch. maybe 15 minutes or a bit less quick sketch. 12x9 canson sketch paper.

found these strange pencils among my collection of artsy-craftsy stuff, "Dixon FOREST GREEN ANADEL 1965". no eraser, but looks like regular lead pencil. except the lead has this greenish brown cast which i quite like. erases cleanly, not real dark if you use a light touch. decided to do another gesture using one. on canson drawing paper 9x12. this was fun, not super pleased with the result, but it convinces me to keep practicing.

this was a quick gesture using a vintage Dixon forest green Anadel pencil on Daler-Rowney drawing paper 9x12. the sketch was about 15 minutes. the pencil is water soluble, a sort of aquarelle, so i wet brushed it after i sketched it. the first pass was a stick figure that i "filled out" to define the form. she was fun to draw.

a bedtime drawing using a "jumbo" style pencil, this is a JR Moon pencil company Try-Rex B21 about HB grade on Daler-Rowney 9x12 drawing paper with some 4B graphite on the hair/background area. this one was a lot of fun to draw, especially with the intricate "mask" the model is wearing.

drew this with a graphite pencil i found laying on the sidewalk, the pencil has no marking or logo, just black paint over the wood body, guessing it is an HB lead. added some tone with a blue and an orange prismacolor, and then inked it with a staedtler pigment liner i refilled with india ink. just a quick one before bed.

the original was drawn in photoshop, which i use to draw much of my work, in fact i frequently use brushes i made in photoshop. i liked the pose and didn't feel like my photoshop version was as good as i'd like, so i redrew the figure by hand as a late night bedtime sketch on Daler & Rowney Simplicity Drawing paper 9x12 using a 2B 0.5mm mech pencil and inked it with a Waterman F nib fountain pen, then colored it with Colerase pencils and some HB graphite pencil all smudged with paper towel.

Just before she cut him open some of us neighbors heard her laugh and say, like she thought it was funny, "Sammy you should have looked both ways before you crossed your lady!" She kept on laughin' for a bit more too.
She had him dead to rights, he was guilty sure as sin carryin' on behind her the way he did. Can't say as he didn't deserve what he got. Low pressure and all, well he bled out pretty quick ya know?
It wasn't like ya couldn't see it coming, it was bound to happen sooner or later, so it wasn't any real surprise to none of us. But, ain't none of us likely ever gonna forget that surprised look he got when she slipped that blade in!
Anyways, we deep sixed him right after, shot him out the disposal port. Way behind us now. Cut up like he was, won't nobody spot them parts no time soon. Ever' body knows what went down, we all acting just like them who don't know nothing: Sammy just disappeared. Nothin' more to tell.

thinking about a graphic novel, speculative fiction (that's buzz for scifi), number of segments that consecutively make the storyline. space opera. we got augies, which are augmented biologicals (frequently human), we got a simsen which is a simulated sensorium, built-in full feature virtual or augmented reality, we got AI players and systems, we got cloned biosynthetics, some close to human. we got belters living amongst the asteroids, there is a colony on Mars, and Earth is a dystopic place where some are chatel, hunted chatel. the belters are the nearest thing to freefolk, but civilization has a loose almost outlaw edge.
so what we do is write the main story, and every so often we interrupt with one of these "sideboard stories", kind of like an aside or back story about someone or something in the main story.
another bedtime snack drawn in bed. this is HB woodless graphite inked with Parker 45 noodled F nib fountain pen (i always use Parker Super Quink permanent black in these) and slightly colored today with prismacolor Colerase pencils. all smudging/blending was by paper towel. it is a 9x12 sheet, i think this is Canson XL mixed media paper, has more tooth and weight than the other paper i've been using lately. inking this paper was an erotic experience.

this is a scan of my print. i scanned the original graphite drawing with an Epson "perfection 3200 photo" scanner using Hamrick's scanner software, posterized the image in photoshop, and printed that with an HP deskjet 9650 on Pacon Marker paper 9x12. this is the result before i inked it.
i may stipple this with some new dot patterns i made. i will freely share the dot patterns (photoshop .pat file) if anyone wants a copy.

Rebar and the payback.
Rebar picked up her nom de guerre because of the "tool" she favored, a bent tip rebar stake just about a foot in length. Usually it was just a kneecap, kind of a notification that it was time to get with the program. Besides, she got a fair commission from the knee and other components replacement businesses. Two, so it looked like there was competition.
Benny had welched on a due, and Ali wanted to be sure it didn't happen again. Still and all, Benny wasn't such a bad dude, so Rebar was gonna dose him with pseudomorphone where he wouldn't even miss the knee until the paramedics picked him up. It was all very orderly, almost beautiful in some kind of strange fashion, that everything worked just so.
Rebar's AI processor was pleased with order. a cognitively dissonant existential crisis can disrupt the very fabric of the existential instantiation...
see, you got the existential instantiation which is the individual, and you got the universal instantiation which is like all of them. if we can stick with this kind of terminology, we can dehumanize the subject, eliminate all that touchy feely stuff like time swirling by... humans do this by their very nature, but for Rebar it was a task.
it is alright. her fever will break soon and she'll be back to normal. weak but back... Rebar was in a fugue state wherein she drifted between acceptance and a doubt that she even existed. but more importantly, was she more human than human, a machine with feelings, or was it all just some engram, a pattern in the stone, that she had been programmed to accept?
Fade back to the task at hand. Slow and easy. Benny knew better than to try any escape. It was all just part of business.
