this is a newly revisited rejuvenated Parker Arrow (?) EF nib (?) fountain pen over 4B Castells Jumbo 9000 graphite pencil sketch on 9x12 Daler & Rowney Drawing paper.
i purchased the paper at my local Walmart for about $3 a pad, and it is really nice drawing paper; however this wally world has gone ghetto (it is only about a year old) so they haven't restocked this paper and some others in a month or more. they also dropped some coffee brands (hey, if it sells out quick why restock it? just stock the slower moving brands right?) and quite a few other products just leaving the shelves empty. kind of sad situation. bah.

another bobster bedtime snack, started in a parking lot earlier. this is 4B Castells Jumbo 9000 graphite pencil on Pacon Art1st Marker paper 9x12. this is a really smooth paper with very little tooth so it doesn't take up much of the graphite. he was fun to draw, harder to get the drawing looking like him than it might seem. not sure what if anything else i might do to this one. but of course fountain pen ink comes to mind. lol.

another bobster parking lot gesture sketch in 2B 0.5mm mech pencil on Pacon 9x12 Marker Pad. the gesture took about 15 or 20 minutes which seems quick even to "speed racer" bobby. ;-) she was a good bit of fun to draw, though she has some strong features that were (for me at least) not that easy to capture. then i inked it with a Parker 45 M stub fountain pen and Parker Super Quink permanent black ink, used an 8B Castells Jumbo 9000 graphite for darker areas. smudged with a chamois.

BUT! i didn't think i got decent proportions on the original, so this version is 9x14 with some further adjustments to the body dimensions. so he is taller, but not just stretched. ;-) photoshop mods.

this is different for me, but i used the tan or light brown cardboard back from an empty 9x12 tablet of drawing paper and a white Faber-Castell PITT soft pastel pencil along with an 8B Castell Jumbo 9000 graphite pencil. he was fun to draw, i'd like to try this again. this side of the cardboard has no tooth to speak of, so you can't touch or lay your arm /hand on what you have drawn. so that was interesting.

I drew a gesture sketch with a Wolff's B Carbon Drawing pencil and then used a 4B Koal-Blak to accentuate the linework. Colored this a bit with some dayglo pencils. All on yellow construction paper (Pacon) 9x12. this is a scan of the drawing

more different. this is a bedtime sketch i finished today, done with Conte No3 Black Drawing pencil and charcoal pencils in 4B and 6B, and pastels, PITT pastel pencils in browns and black and some gray sticks, touch of greens. all on a 9x12 sheet of blue cardstock. eye catchlights are Bic witeout correction fluid. this is my first pastel piece in quite a long time and it was fun. kind of cartoonish but that's what i do. lol.

this is a high res scan, previously posted a cellphone photo. A bedtime drawing. I drew the body with 2B Castells Jumbo 9000 graphite and inked it with a Waterman F nib fountain pen and Parker Super Quink permanent black ink. Then i colored the outfit with Sanford's Design Ebony pencil and a Prismacolor scarlet red pencil and a charcoal pencil, smudged with a tortillon. Then i added her face with a Wolff's BB Carbon pencil, inked that with the Waterman FP, and used the scarlet red Prismacolor pencil again. Finally blended it all with a Prismacolor "Blender" pencil and a piece of chamois. the whites of her eyes are done with Conte White Extra Fine Drawing pencil. Added the border motif with Prismacolor pencils. this is on the "wrong side" of a 9x12 sheet of Pacon Art1st Drawing paper. some of these tools i haven't used in a long time so it's like rediscovering joy. one of our friends observed that nobody could have legs as long as those on the model. i am just glad i got them to fit on the paper. ;-)

this was a bedtime experiment. i am playing with this gray construction paper, 9x12 Pacon Art1st. but what i tried here was to use Conte No3 Extra Fine Drawing pencil in black and some Conte No3 white drawing crayon followed with PITT pastel pencils in browns. the conte and the pastels are quite different, the conte being waxy, so applying pastels over them doesn't smear them and they reduce the pastel's coverage, how much sticks. smudged it all with a tortillon and then chamois. finally redrew most of my outlines with a Koal-Black charcoal pencil, and a touch to the deeper shadows. the catchlights are homage to my comic book form.

this scan was another bedtime sketch. 2B 0.5mm mech pencil inked partially with a Parker 45 F nib fountain pen and Parker Super Quink permanent black ink then some toning with Prismacolor white pencil and a touch of pink and some browns, along with Sanford's Design Ebony black pencil all on a sheet of 9x12 red cardstock. note that the ink isn't as prominent over the pencil on this medium. i am thinking i need to clean my rapidographs again, throw down some india. that would be BLACK. i am not sure why i drew this on red except i wanted to see what i could get. anyway, here she is so far...

Colonel Sansom was the commander of a five chopper squadron of Hornets, two man attack helicopters. The military life wasn't easy, but the meds were good and the psychotropics almost suppressed the realities of the job. Sansom had some of the latest nanonet technology wired throughout her cortex and when she was in the bird, she became part of it. As squadron commander Sansom was also virtually a part of the other birds and their crews. One big happy predator and a talented hunter-killer.

day 1031 daily drawing challenge reference photo and a photo of his cap from "Alien". Assistant Engineer Samuel Brett (ID 724/R4-06J) 2069-2122 "Suffered minor brain damage during a cerebral detox procedure."
in the movie he meets his end by the alien, but i used the reference photo where he was a good bit older and i gave him his cap back. so it's an age progression for samuel brett had he lived. ;-) let's call it "reflections on the xenomorph".
this was a bedtime sketch day ago, No.2 Conte Extra Fine Drawing Pencil on Pacon Art1st Drawing Paper 9x12. last night at bedtime i added his hand holding one of his home-rolled cigs and the jacket and shirt from Alien. still thinking to ink this with india ink and rapidographs. so the Conte pencil does not erase very well on this paper, even using an electric eraser,

day 1031 daily drawing challenge reference photo and a photo of his cap from "Alien"
Assistant Engineer Samuel Brett (ID 724/R4-06J) 2069-2122 "Suffered minor brain damage during a cerebral detox procedure." in the movie he meets his end by the alien, but i used the reference photo where he was a good bit older and i gave him his cap back. so it's an age progression for samuel brett had he lived. ;-)
this was a bedtime sketch, No.2 Conte Extra Fine Drawing Pencil on Pacon Art1st Drawing Paper 9x12. might add that tropical shirt he wore in Alien. but i am thinking to ink this with india ink and rapidographs.
